Position Description

Spectrum Healthcare Resources is excited to offer a potential career opportunity for an Registered Nurse - Post Anesthesia Care Unit at the Naval Medical Center San Diego (NMCSD). Requirements:

  • Education: Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Nursing (ADN or BSN) from an accredited nursing program.

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of employment.

  • Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS).

  • PACU-specific certification, such as the Certified Post Anesthesia Nurse (CPAN), may be preferred.

  • Experience: Previous experience in a PACU, critical care, or surgical setting is typically required.

  • Strong clinical skills in monitoring and caring for patients post-anesthesia.

  • Skills: Excellent assessment and critical thinking skills.

  • Ability to work effectively in high-pressure situations.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Patient Assessment and Monitoring: Monitor patients' vital signs and level of consciousness post-surgery.

  • Assess patients for any signs of complications and manage post-operative pain and discomfort.

  • Care and Recovery: Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by the physician.

  • Provide care and support to patients as they recover from anesthesia, ensuring their safety and comfort.

  • Communicate effectively with the surgical team, anesthesia providers, and other healthcare professionals.

  • Educate patients and their families about post-operative care and discharge instructions.

  • Respond to medical emergencies in the PACU, initiating life-saving measures if necessary.

  • Ensure equipment and medications are readily available and functional for emergency situations.

  • Maintain accurate and detailed patient records, including assessments, interventions, and patient responses.
