HPNA Call to Action!

Posted over 9 years ago by Lawrence Garner-Vrabel

Dear Members,

Please take a moment to read about this important development in promoting palliative care as a critical component of nursing education.  We have linked directly to the referneced document for you.

---------------------

HPNA congratulates the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) for its groundbreaking development of comprehensive recommendations for undergraduate nursing education, Competencies and Recommendations for Educating Undergraduate Nursing Students: Preparing Nurses to Care for the Seriously Ill and Their Families.

AACN has recognized HPNA's contribution to and influence in this work through our work in Palliative Nursing Leadership. Now it's time for you to take action!

As an active member of our HPNA community, we are calling on you to join us in promoting these AACN recommendations. Write a letter to your nursing school, or other universities where you have affiliations, and tell them why it is important to include the palliative care curriculum in their undergraduate nursing program.

HPNA continues to lead the transformation of care by evaluating the educational needs of hospice and palliative professionals and designing programs and curriculum to advance expert care in serious illness. Help us get the message out to nursing programs to include the AACN palliative care competencies in their academic undergraduate nursing curriculum.

Let us know who you contacted by sending us a copy of your letter or email to hpna@hpna.org. Please be sure to put "Call to Action" in the subject line. Thanks.
